Kumawu MP, Philip Basoah dies aged 54

We regret to announce the passing of the Honorable Philip Basoah, Member of Parliament for the Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region. Mr. Basoah, born in 1969, passed away last night at the age of 54. The circumstances surrounding his death are not immediately known.

Mr. Basoah began his tenure in Parliament in 2017, having won the 2016 general elections in the Kumawu constituency. Before his election to Parliament, he served as the Chief Executive for the Sekyere East District from June 2005 to January 2009 and also worked as a tutor at the Agogo State College.

In the 2016 Ghana general elections, Mr. Basoah won the parliamentary seat with 21,794 votes, representing 78.2% of the total votes cast on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He continued his service to the people of Kumawu in the 2020 Ghana general elections, where he won the parliamentary seat with 14,960 votes, representing 51.1% of the total votes cast.
